“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-
and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”
– Ephesians 2:8

In this Sunday night service Pastor John wanted to talk about something that is very important in the Kingdom. At this time Grace Chapel was endeavoring to move into the spirit of God and into new things. Part of this movement involved their ability and understanding of worship and praise. Pastor John said to not be afraid when we are worshiping God. But be afraid when we are getting excited about excitement, but never be afraid of the flesh when you are worshiping God. Flesh does not worship God. Flesh worships itself.

Pastor John wants us to learn how to move in the Lord. There is extreme power and victory in praise. There is nearness, closeness, and precious healing in worship. There is entry into the very holy places and things of God through the offering of thanksgiving. Our traditions and customs have hindered us from moving into some very powerful things in God. In this two-part message Pastor John is going to try and lead Grace Chapel as he can into the things of the Lord.

Our problem is that most of us have more “churchanity” than we really have Bible in us.”

Three years prior Pastor John gave this message to Grace Chapel in a series and it was something the Holy Spirit was dealing with him about again. Pastor John and Grace Chapel recently had been through a study on the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Darkness. They talked about the four levels of spiritual creation that try to bring us into servants to the enemy.

For this message Pastor John will be talking about something in between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan that causes us most of our confusion called the flesh. He wanted to deal with this because things are not clearly the devil and they are not clearly God sometimes, but a lot of times they are the flesh. We want to learn to identify that and learn how to bring that under the control of the Holy Spirit so we can be delivered from the flesh that defeats us.

If you can get victory over the flesh in your life, it will be so easy to walk in the Spirit.”

Most of us as Christians have a theology that is rooted in the concept that the enemies we fight with are the world, the flesh, and the devil. When we talk about these terms they are very vague and we understand them somewhat, but not accurately many times. When we are talking about the devil we are not just talking about Satan but the whole realm of demonic forces that he musters behind him. It is an unseen realm that is called the Kingdom of Darkness.

When talking about the flesh we are dealing with an inside growing strength of desire. When we talk about devil and the world we are talking about outside influence. When we talk about the flesh we are talking about something that is inside us. This flesh is our most constant and deceitful enemy. If we could only conquer the battle within our in a practical victory we’ll easily overcome the other two great forces of Satan in the world.

It’s through our flesh that most of our temptations comes to us. It is behind our flesh that Satan can get a foothold upon us. It is because of our flesh that the world pulls us so strongly and it’s because of the appetite of the flesh that the world seems so attractive.”

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

Romans 8:5 NIV

We can tell if we living according to the flesh or according to the Spirit by what our minds are on. If your mind is on the things of God you are living according to the Spirit. But if your mind is on the things of the world you are living in the flesh. We can see if our minds are not on what the Spirit desires it is because we have been tricked into living according to the sinful nature.

How do we get away from gratifying the sinful nature? We do this by living in the Spirit. Most Christians believe to keep a little bit of flesh because it makes life exciting, but what happens is it causes them to not be in the Spirit at all. If you are walking in the Spirit you are not going to be gratifying the sinful desires.

Lets recognize that even though there is the world and there is the devil, the reason they become effective in our lives is because we take back the vessel away from God and start living our own way. The minute we do it doesn’t matter if you have a reverend by your name, or a doctorate in theology you will still end up doing the same stuff again and it’s time we stopped.”

In part 2 of being delivered from the flesh Pastor John builds upon the previous weeks message about the flesh that defeats us especially about seeing in the dark. The Kingdom of Darkness likes to orchestrate events and surprise us with them so we must learn to see in the darkness. According to Pastor John the way that the world is people live in darkness and so they don’t know what they are stumbling at.

Seeing in the dark is when the Lord opens his Word and lets us see things that we can’t see any other way. We can’t figure this out by ourselves. It’s when God’s Word sheds light on a subject. Christians many times even though they have come to the Lord and surrendered to him as savior they haven’t surrendered to his lordship.

When you are translated from the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of his dear son, you start being governed by the power, spirit, and word of the King. That’s all the Kingdom means.”

Christians that come under His lordship are the ones who begin to operate by a different governing principle. Their life follows a different drummer and that drummer is the presence of the Holy Spirit. Pastor John will be discussing the development of moving away from the old way of responding to the flesh.

We get victory over the flesh by not loving “things” and by not loving people more than God. We receive victory over the flesh simply by laying all of that down and loving Him more than anything else. We then allow God to be the one who promotes us, helps us, and establishes our paths.

To me there’s no option but to follow God, follow him through the Spirit, and not feed the flesh.”

What Pastor John is trying to simply tell us is that if you live your Christian life still motivated towards yourself you will produce what self produces and you will always stay in the same thing. But if you will get out of the self mode and start focusing on higher goals by laying your life down for higher godly ideals, it will be totally different for you. And the best way to do this is through servanthood.

Flesh doesn’t like to serve, flesh likes to be served. We need to serve one another with love and learn how to be servants.”
