During the last few weeks leading up to this sermon, Pastor John spoke to us regarding the various dimensions and giftings of God’s grace towards us, His grace and His gracings. In this sermon Pastor John will take a portion of the scripture that is well known and use it illustrate a companion issue. It is the issue of God’s presence and our need to know how to live in His presence, because all grace flows from His presence.
Some would comment at this point, isn’t God always present. Isn’t He omnipresent? And my answer would be yes and no.”
Omnipresent means anywhere, everywhere and always present. It is an old Bible doctrine. It was one of the things that was so astounding, the knowledge of God as revealed in the Old Testament. The concept of one God who was everywhere was an astonishing revelation to those who had never heard it. Omnipresence is the attribute of God alone, which is meant that God is free from the laws of the limitations of space.
So we are talking about a big God. We are talking about something that goes beyond our ability to capture, comprehend or understand. We hold these things as doctrines of the faith. That we believe them without understanding them and we believe them by faith, because we are caught in this revelation of Himself that is bigger than humanity or bigger than human minds.
Whether we like it or not, whether you believe it or not, God is not something you can put out of your life because you live in God. He is so immense and so omnipresent that we have all of our being and movement in Him.”
Our very life itself even when we are distant from Him don’t know or serve Him, is still in His presence to the effect that we live, move and have our being in Him. It is a biblical fact that God not only exists but that His presence fills the entirety of heaven and earth and this is true even when man doesn’t detect Him.
Yes God does exist and He really is omnipresent. There is though a greater sense of His presence than this. This is why Pastor John answered yes and no. There is a sense of God’s presence and a manifestation of His glory that is beyond this, which this is given for us to enter into. Even though all men live in the presence of God there is a sense in which we can live in and enjoy a greater dimension of God’s presence than this co-existence factor.
In this sermon Pastor John will speak on this sense, where we can actually feel God’s presence, and that there is a realm of living of which we can always live in the power of His presence.
Psalm 139:7-10 NIV
7Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Jeremiah 23:23-24 NIV
23“Am I only a God nearby,”
declares the Lord,
“and not a God far away?
24Who can hide in secret places
so that I cannot see them?”
declares the Lord.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?”
declares the Lord.
Acts 17:27-28 NIV
